PROGRAM GOALS
Our Senior Leadership Development program helps participants develop the confidence and skills to:

PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS
The program was originally developed for incoming Senior Resident Leadership teams of University Residential Colleges for Newcastle University. Senior Residents have a unique position of responsibility in delivering Pastoral Care Programs to all tertiary students living at a College on campus, which could be upwards of 1000 students, many of whom come from all over the world.
This leadership team of approximately 65 second or third year students is an extension of the paid administration staff at each college. They live on site and are available as a key point of contact and friendship for the student community. They are also often very active in leading social activities and in the College’s participation at Inter College events held at University.
Their role includes developing positive culture around both official and unofficial Orientation (O) Week activities at their College which can come with its own challenges if not managed correctly – e.g. initiation rites getting out of hand, excessive drinking culture etc.
These young leaders play a pivotal role in creating a home away from home for many people, helping ‘first years’ overcome homesickness and other anxieties that come with being in a new environment and getting used to the demands of tertiary study.
They are the ones that embody Australia and create strong impressions as to the Australian character and hospitality.
At the same time, these people have strong aspirations to do well in their own studies.
Typically run in the outdoors north or south of Sydney, our Senior Leadership Development program is a 3 day – 2 night off campus program for College Leadership staff and the new Student Leadership team.

Black Diamond Adventures has extensive experience in delivering transformative personal development programs using the outdoors as the classroom. Through our Leadership Development program, senior residents are given the time and space to create a framework for the way they will lead as individuals and as a team. They are set a combination of tutorials and outdoor group challenges to help ground this theory in practise and reality.
Post program, senior residents receive professional training, communication coaching, development and support to help them grow into the role. The skills they learn through Black Diamond Adventures and their Senior Residency role will benefit them in any future endeavour.
